Leaked audio suggests Daniel Correa murder suspect tried to trick police

There has been another twist in the saga of the murder of Daniel Correa, the 24-year-old Sao Paulo footballer whose mutilated body was found last week.

Edison Brittes Jr is accused of killing the player and even admitted to the murder, with his defence being that he found Correa raping his wife and that he lost control.

However, audio released by UOL suggests that before he made this confession he had tried to fool police by recording a message in which he praised the player and said that he left the 18th birthday party of his daughter Allana alive.

“He came from far away just to come for her birthday, he was a very dear person for us,” he is heard saying of Correa after learning the news.

“Allana is in shock and I had to comfort her.

“She is such a good friend of his that he came just for her birthday.”

However, the daughter later admitted that she’d only known Correa for less than a year and that he hadn’t been invited, going against what was said on the audio.

In the recording, the accused also said that the footballer had left the party alive.

“He left,” Edison Brittes Jr is heard saying.

“He walked out.”

Throughout the conversation, he also spoke of Correa being drunk.

He did not make mention of his wife being assaulted by Correa during this conversation, with this line of defence only being presented later.
