To Jose Mourinho the goal may well prove to be priceless with regards to keeping his job at Old Trafford, yet the bean counters behind the scenes are feeling the pinch after Anthony Martial‘s equaliser against Newcastle United cost Manchester United10 million euros.

As part of the Reds’ agreement with Monaco in 2015, it was determined that the principality club would be paid a figure of 10 million euros if the Frenchman scored 25 league goals before 2019, which he has now done.

The transfer agreement included two further clauses, one of which would have seen the Ligue 1 club receive another 10m euros had Martial been capped 25 times by the French national team before 2019, however the international calendar lacks the requisite number of fixtures before January for this to happen.

Being nominated for the Ballon d’Or before 2019 would also have seen Monaco net a further 10m euros, although that too hasn’t come to pass.
