Mateu Lahoz will be the first Spanish referee to use VAR in the Champions League

Champions League action is set to return with VAR making its debut, and Mateu Lahoz will be the first Spanish referee capable of using the technology in the competition.

The 41-year-old referee will be in charge of the last 16 tie between Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium.

Mateu Lahoz, who has already has officiated a game with the help of the technology in the 2018 World Cup, as well as in LaLiga Santander, will be assisted by Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez and Juan Martinez Munuera in the VAR room.

The Spaniard’s two assistant referees on the pitch will be Pau Cebrian Davis and Roberto Diaz Perez del Palomar, while Xavier Estrada Fernandez will be the fourth official.
