Brazilian businessman Edson Brittes Jr has claimed responsibility for the murder of Sao Paulo’s Daniel Correa, alleging that he did so because he found the player attempting to rape his wife.

The 24-year-old was found brutally beaten and almost beheaded this week in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, a crime that shocked the nation.

Appearing via a video broadcast on TV, Brittes attempted to explain his version of events to the public.

“When I opened the door, I saw him over my wife’s ass she called for help,” he claimed.

“What I did was what any man would do for any woman in Brazil.

“It could be your daughter, your sister, your mother, your wife.

“At that moment, it was my wife, Cris, with whom I have been married for 20 years, the woman to whom I have dedicated my life, who always loved and respected me.”

Both Brittes‘ wife and his daughter, Allana, whose birthday party the incident took place at, are also being detained.

“My wife never had anything to do with Daniel and neither did my daughter because despite the rumours, the truth will always appear,” he continued.

“Yes I did what I did but I want all of you who are watching me to think about what you would do to maintain the moral integrity of your family and help a small and fragile woman.

“That is what I had to do when I took him off my wife, threw him on the ground and prevented her from being raped by that rogue monster.”

Allana, the suspect’s daughter, confirmed her father’s version of events on the same channel.

“We were in the party area and I went up to my bedroom to go to sleep with a friend,” she stated.

“A few seconds later, we started to hear screams and when we opened the door, he was on top of my mother trying to rape her.

“Everyone wanted to attack him because my mother was screaming and he wasn’t saying anything.

“I met him less than a year ago but I had no relationship with him.”

It is still unknown whether or not Correa committed sexual assault on Cristina Brittes but the police have taken the player’s cell phone in which WhatsApp messages were found where he told a friend that he wanted to ‘eat the mother of the birthday girl.’

Later messages which said ‘I ate it,’ together with a photo in which he is accompanied by the woman in question, appeared.
