Tuchel blasts the media when quizzed on goalkeeping situation

It’s unusual for headlines surrounding Paris Saint-Germain not to include one of Neymar or Kylian Mbappe, yet Thomas Tuchel has blasted the media when he was quizzed on the situation regarding his two goalkeepers at the Parc des Princes.

French stopper Alphonse Areola was at the centre of reports which suggested he’d been told by the German coach that the first-choice position at PSG was his ahead of summer arrival Gianluigi Buffon, however Tuchel vehemently denies this.

“I said that Alphonse starts before Gigi signed, that Alphonse starts from pole position to fight for the number one position,” he made clear in Friday’s press conference.

“With the arrival of Gigi we have a different situation because Gigi is Gigi.

“Now it’s my wish that Alphonse fights for and has the potential to become a top-class goalkeeper for this club, for some club.

“We have to be very clever and intelligent with two very very special people and very special sportsmen and characters to find a good solution that at the end Alphonse becomes the top keeper for PSG because of Gigi being here, not in spite of Gigi being here.”
